New Delhi: WhatsApp group administrators may soon be able to restrict members from sending text messages, videos, GIFs, documents or voice messages, according to a report.
The ‘Restricted Groups’ setting is included in WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.430, according to WABetaInfo, a popular site that tests upcoming features on the Facebook-owned app.

The ‘Restricted Groups’ setting can only be enabled by group administrators, and admins can continue sharing media or continue texting while restricting other members.
Restricted members will be muted from the group, and will be required to use the ‘message admin’ button to post messages/share media on the group. The message will need to be approved by the administrator before going through to the rest of the group.
“A group can be restricted once every 72 hours but thanks to the 2.17.430 beta, we discovered that WhatsApp will be finally able to change this value from the server,” the website said.
