Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Samsung Galaxy S9: Which one you should buy?

Nokia 8 Sirocco was unveiled on Sunday alongside the Samsung Galaxy S9 at separate events at the sidelines of MWC 2018. Nokia and Samsung are two rivals that used to fight out for the top in smartphones for several years. In last few years, Samsung rose to dominance in smartphones while Nokia vanished from the space. The two of the oldest smartphone players in the industry on Sunday yet again tried to make a statement at the biggest mobile trade show on the planet.

At MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S9 flagship smartphone while HMD Global, the custodian of Nokia brand, revealed the Nokia 8 Sirocco, a smartphone perfectly built with top-notch specs. The new launches from both the brands yet again brought back memories from previous years where a new Nokia phone used to take on Samsung’s new Galaxy smartphone.

In its quest to become the best, Nokia 8 Sirocco will have to take on the Samsung Galaxy S9. But are the two even comparable or Samsung sweeps the table easily? We try to find out in this post.

Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Samsung Galaxy S9: Design

When HMD Global launched products last year, the company definitely was short of a head turner. Nokia 8 Sirocco fits the requirement this time and sports a premium design. The curved glass covers over 95 percent of the phone and has been built from a single piece of stainless steel. The design from every corner feels premium and is built of 6000 series of aluminium and also packs 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection from scratches. HMD Global stressed that the Nokia 8 Sirocco sports dual diamond-polished stainless-steel frame.

When Nokia as a brand was going down, Samsung was registering big numbers. Not in terms of just units sold but also in terms of units it shipped. Samsung is the biggest smartphone vendor of the world and the elegant design of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is a proof. The phone uses metal frame with an upgraded aluminium material with improved resistance to scratches. The frames on the Galaxy S9 are slightly more protruded than the glass for an increase in durability. There’s a Satin Gloss finish to the metallic material to give a soft and glossy shine.

Samsung says that the Galaxy S9 has been designed for easier use with just one hand. The curves of the device’s sides have been gracefully reduced to allow for a much more stable and comfortable grip, as per Samsung. The fingerprint sensor has been placed in the centre to make it easier to reach with either the right or left hand. Overall, the design is very subjective and depends on what users actually like.
