IPL 2018: Hotstar, JioTV, and Airtel TV apps offer live streaming of matches

IPL or Indian Premier League 2018 cricket season officially kicked off on Saturday with the opening ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which was followed by the first league match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. As you may be already aware, IPL 2018 broadcasting rights are now with Star India which will mean that Hotstar, Star India’s video streaming service, will be showing live matches on the app as well as online. Apart from Hotstar, Airtel subscribers can watch live matches via Airtel TV app and similarly, Jio subscribers will be able to watch IPL matches via JioTV app.

The IPL 2018 this year is being sponsored by Vivo and it will be played from April 7 to May 27 2018. This year’s IPL season will span over 50 days and will be played at 10 different venues while includes 60 matches. Star India has already announced that in India, Vivo IPL 2018 will be broadcasted on the Star India network which will be offering the coverage in six languages with Live streaming available on Hotstar.

How to watch IPL 2018 via Hotstar app

Hotstar, Star India’s streaming platform with over 100,000 hours of drama and movies in 9 languages, and access to major global sporting event, is the official streaming app for Vivo IPL 2018 cricket matches. To watch IPL 2018 matches on your smartphone, download the Hotstar app on your device. Log-in with your account and you can enjoy live cricket match. It’s worth pointing that there’s no free live cricket match access via the Hotstar app as users will need a premium subscription.

Ahead of Vivo IPL 2018 extravaganza, Star India’s Hotstar had announced an all-new Sports pack targeted at sports lovers. Targeted at sports lovers and not just IPL fans, Star India’s Hotstar All Sports pack offers all major sporting events throughout the year at just Rs. 299 per year. The company with its new Hotstar All Sports pack is offering live cricket, football, tennis, and Kabaddi events.

Cricket lovers can stream IPL 2018 in virtual reality this year with Hotstar adding the capability. Alongside the immersive VR experience, fans will also be able to select camera angles and commentary language of their choice on Hotstar app.

Hotstar app in an attempt to become the one-stop shop for IPL 2018 has announced to rollout the “fastest cricket scorecard in the country” with load time under 0.5 seconds. The new scorecard unit will be available to all Hotstar users when they open the app.

“The seemingly simple feature packs in complex coding under the hood to provide the live score, with zero lag, to over 250 million varied devices across the country. With the fastest load time compared to any other cricket score feed, the feature is designed to minimize friction for the user, completely eliminating the need to search for the score anywhere else. The feature will be rolled out with the first Vivo IPL match,” Hotstar said.

How to watch IPL 2018 via Airtel TV and JioTV apps

Airtel, earlier this month, had announced a partnership with Hotstar where-in it will offer live IPL 2018 cricket matches and highlights. The company rolled out a new Airtel TV app which now has a dedicated IPL 2018 section and shows matches as well as previews directly from Hotstar app.

Similar to Airtel TV app, JioTV app will also offer live streaming of IPL 2018 cricket matches. Jio Prime members can enjoy IPL 2018 for free via JioTV app. To watch the IPL matches for free, Jio Prime members can sign-in on JioTV app which will provide live stream via Hotstar.

The IPL 2018 opening ceremony is scheduled to start at 06:15pm IST on Saturday and will witness performances by Hrithik Roshan, Varun Dhawan, and Prabhu Deva. Some of the other performers include Mika Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Tamannaah Bhatia. The first match will be played after the opening ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match between current champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will kick off at 8pm IST.
