Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 up for pre-order; software update brings Face Recognition feature

Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 smartphone is available for pre-order starting today on e-tailer Flipkart. The smartphone was unveiled by the company roughly 10 days earlier and comes in three models. Asus has priced its mid-range smartphone aggressively to take on Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is available in 3/4/6GB of RAM and 32/64/128GB storage models. The smartphone comes at a starting price of Rs. 10,999 and goes up to Rs. 14,999 for the higher-end variant.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 has started receiving a software update which brings Face Recognition, April 2018 security patch and other improvements. The update is roughly 1.3GB in size and will roll-out to users over the next couple of days.

As mentioned above, version 14.2016.1804.252 brings Face Recognition which allows users to unlock their smartphone using face data. Other new features include updates to the gyroscope, audio paraments and battery optimisations. The fingerprint unlock time is also reported to have been improved with the update. Camera optimisations include colour correction, HDR algorithm, low-light photography among others.

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 sports a 5.99-inch full HD+ FullView IPS display with 2.5D glass panel offering a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, 83 per cent screen-to-body ratio, 450 nits maximum brightness. Under-the-hood, there is a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 636 processor paired with Adreno 509 GPU coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded via a dedicated microSD slot. While the package is backed by a 5000mAh battery, the smartphone runs stock Android 8.1 Oreo.

As for optics, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a vertical dual rear camera setup that includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture, 5 element lens, 80-degree view angle, PDAF and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor coupled with depth sensing technology for accurate bokeh shots. Biometrics include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along with facial recognition.

The smartphone was launched with three variants i.e. the 3GB RAM+32GB storage version which is priced at Rs. 10,999, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant which is priced at Rs. 12,999, and the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version which costs Rs 14,999.

However, in the first sale, the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 won’t be available as the company has announced that it will make the top-end model of Zenfone Max Pro M1 available in India on a later date.
