New Delhi: After entertaining the crowd and the cricket fraternity with his stellar comeback innings in the three-match T20I series against South Africa in February, Suresh Raina enthraled his Indian teammates ahead of crucial India versus Sri Lanka clash on Monday with his singing skills. In a video posted on Instagram, Raina is seen singing Kishore Kumar’s 1970 hit song ‘Yeh Shaam Mastani‘ from Rajesh Khanna-starer Kati Patang.
Raina took to his Instagram account to post a video of the dame along with the caption, “Practice like you never won & perform like you never lost” – clearly I have nothing to loose with my singing skills! Fun times with my fun team!”
Raina made a stunning comeback to international duties with his stellar 43 in the T20I decider at Newlands in February against the Proteas side which even earned him the Man of the Match trophy.
Following his spectacular return, Indian selectors retained him for the Nidahas Trophy Campaign. India are without six of their limited-overs regulars including Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Rohit Sharma is the stand-in skipper with Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy. Raina and Dinesh Karthik are the only other senior pros in the second-string Indian side in the Island nation.
Team India, who were tagged favourites going into the tournament, were humbled in the opener against hosts Sri Lanka by five wickets on March 6 in Colombo. Despite Shikhar Dhawan’s heroics with the willow, Kushal Perera’s blistering fifty alongside Thisara Perera’s experienced cameo took the hosts comfortably past the target of 175 runs.
Against Bangladesh, India kept their dominance intact as the Men in Blue inflicted a six-wicket win on March 8 in Colombo. Dhawan was at his best, but as the team, they failed to live up to the mark that defines them in the recent era, however new-age Bangladesh failed to make much effort as India sailed through.
