IPL Live Cricket Score, KXIP vs RCB: Third-placed Kings XI Punjab host seventh-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore. R Ashwin’s KXIP will be looking to inch closer to a place in the playoffs while Virat Kohli’s side will be desperate to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time since 2016.
Thanks for staying with us for the live coverage of Kings XI Punjab vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. Umesh Yadav’s fiery spell at the start of the match leads the rout of a sorry-looking Kings XI Punjab. Once Gayle-Rahul departed off short balls, the hosts could never recover as their over-reliance on their openers backfires. RCB, meanwhile, are still in the contention for the playoffs winning this do-or-die encounter.
RCB win by 10 wickets.
Over 7 | RCB 79/0 | Kolhi 42, Parthiv 33
10 runs needed as Kohli and Parthiv look to finsih things off in a jiffy here.
Over 6 | RCB 66/0 | Kolhi 31, Parthiv 30
12 runs from this over.
Over 5 | RCB 54/0 | Kolhi 22, Parthiv 30
Over 4 | RCB 39/0 | Kolhi 20, Parthiv 17
Andrew Tye has the ball in his hand. Beats Parthiv on his cut on few occasions. Then a ball jams back in against Kohli and an LBW appeal is on. Umpire reckons that’s going down the leg and on review it the hawk-eye vouches for the umpire’s decision. Only 3 runs from this over.
Over 3 | RCB 36/0 | Kolhi 19, Parthiv 16
Rajpoot would know whom he is bowling against as Kohli goes bang band. Full and in the arc for Kohli, and he deposits a huge six in the cow corner. Then good length ball is pulled away to mid-on for a boundary. Then makes some room for himself and slaps over a point for another boundary. Absolute carnage here from Kohli. 16 runs from that over.
Over 2 | RCB 20/0 | Kolhi 4, Parthiv 16
Andrew Tye into the attack. Starts off well with two dot balls. Parthiv breaks the shackles with two back to back fours. 11 runs from the over. Big over. Not good bowling from Punjab. They are losing the plot in bowling as well.
Over 1 | RCB 9/0 | Kolhi 3, Parthiv 6
Ravichandran Ashwin gets underway with the ball for KXIP. Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel have come out to bat for the visitors. Nine runs from the over. Working out on singles for five balls, Parthiv breaks free in the last ball. Ashwin from across the wicket bangs it in on the leg, Parthiv makes room and slams it for a four. RCB need 80 to win.
Over 15 | KXIP 88 all out
Moeen Aki starts this new over and straigt away a run-out chance is involved. The bat was in the air and Punjab end their misery with another dose of embarrassment. This is the second-lowest total in IPL history for KXIP.
Rajpoot run out (Southee/Moeen Ali) 1(5)
Over 15 | KXIP 87\9 | Axar 8 Ankit 1
Only 3 runs from that over as Siraj slips in with a tidy over. Can Punjab get over 100-run mark? Looks like they would struggle a great deal.
Over 14 | KXIP 84\9 | Axar 7 Ankit 0
Moeen Ali comes into the attack and for Punjab, this match is done and dusted. The batsmen deal in singles before a sloppy running costs Punjab another wicket. Some ridiculous running there as there was hardly a run there. More so against the gun fielder ABD.
Over 13 | KXIP 80\8 | Axar 4 Ashwin 0
Can someone decipher what’s happening in the middle? Punjab are playing like amateurs here. Umesh Yadav has been fast and hostile tonight and here a short ball for does the trick again. Gets Tye caught behind.
Andrew Tye c Parthiv Patel b U Yadav 0(3)
Over 12 | KXIP 78\7 | Axar 4 Ashwin 0
Moeen Ali has been blasted for a six in his first ball. That was short and Finch uses the depth of the crease to rock back and deposits to the stands in the deep mid-wicket. He is not second time lucky as a half-tracker lands in Virat’s bucket. Then a horrible mix-up sees new batsman run out.
Finch c Kohli b Moeen Ali 26(23)
Ashwin run out (Negi/Parthiv Patel) 0(1)
Over 11 | KXIP 70\5 | Mayank 3 Finch 19
De Grandhomme comes into the attack and looks largely innocuous here. Again, Finch and Patel look to deal in singles, Finch tickles a leg glance to the keeper but that lands well short of Parthiv Patel. Only 5 runs from that over as de Grandhomme has slipped in a tidy over. Run rate of KXIP: 6.36
Over 10 | KXIP 65\5 | Mayank 1 Finch 17
Chahal comes into the attack and bowls a steady stump-to-stump line. Three singles and two dot balls in the first balls as Punjab clearly have decided to steady themselves after the flurry of wickets. RCB, meanwhile, would be much more relaxed with the scenario as they have a firm advantage in this match. Only 4 runs from this over.
Over 9 | KXIP 61\5 | Mayank 2 Finch 15
New bowler is medium pacer de Grandhomme. It would be a test for embattled Punjab’s middle order who have failed to step up when Rahul-Gayle combo has failed. Will they come in handy? We will see. Mayank is looking to rotate the strike, however, looks like a leg-side tickle has carried to Parthiv. The umpire has referred upstairs. Looks like there is some bat involved. New batsman is Axar Patel.
Mayank Agarwal c Parthiv Patel b de Grandhomme 2(6)
Over 8 | KXIP 58\4 | Mayank 1 Finch 14
Siraj comes into the attack with Punjab in complete disarray. Some brilliant bowling from RCB has rocked the hosts here. Finch would hold the key from here as the Kings would look to weave a partnership here. Siraj goes full and is driven to six over cover. Finch would hope his timing doesn’t betray him in this match. Only 8 runs from that over.
Over 7 | KXIP 50\4 | Mayank 0 Finch 7
Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack and is largely short on his first three balls. The two Aussies deal in singles. Chahal then goes york-ish and Stoinis is castled. Punjab in free fall as a googly works for Chahal. New batsman is Mayank Aggarwal and Chahal ends this successful over.
Stoinis b Chahal 2(3)
Over 6 | KXIP 46\3 | Stoinis 1 Finch 5
New batsmen are Finch and Nair. However, Nair has to go back to the pavilion as he has handed a slip catch to Kohli. Looked to cut an incoming ball against Siraj and ends up handing a catch to Kohli who dives low to his left to get rid of Nair. Punjab three down now. inside the Powerplay. Finch, meanwhile, has caressed a boundary to covers off a good length ball.
Nair c Kohli b Siraj 1(3)
Over 5 | KXIP 41\2 | Rahul 13 Gayle 14
Yadav tries a back-of-the-hand slower ball and Rahul slams another six. Anything short and Rahul has decided it to murder it. Perishes for this attitude. Short ball has travelled to the fine leg fielder and he hasn’t dropped that catch like Parthiv Patel. Then Gayle moves to the leg side of the ball to slap it to the covers for a boundary. However, Yadav targets Gayle’s head with a bouncer and gets him caught at fine leg. Double whammy for RCB.
Gayle c Siraj b U Yadav 18(14)
Rahul c de Grandhomme b U Yadav 21(15)
Over 4 | KXIP 28\0 | Rahul 13 Gayle 14
Southee gives width in the first ball and that is hammered for a boundary by Gayle. Stayed leg side to give himself some room and then slapped to the covers. Gayle finally breaks free after buying some time. Single then to bring Rahul to the strike. Then Gayle decides to go baseball style as he picks a short ball early and front-pulls it towards deep mid-wicket. 14 runs from that over.
Over 3 | KXIP 14\0 | Rahul 13 Gayle 1
A red-hot Yadav comes back and Gayle is cautious here. Beats the West Indian off an outside edge. That ball is hurrying on to Gayle here as he is struggling to breathe. Goes york-ish there which is squeezed to single down the third man. Short ball from Yadav and Rahul is again on to it in a flash. Anything short and Rahul is going bang bang. Pulls a head-targeted ball for a maximum. Then de Villiers at covers tries to catch a difficult chance driving forward. Another good over from Yadav. Leaks just 7 runs.
Over 2 | KXIP 7\0 | Rahul 7 Gayle 0
Tim Southee, RCB’s another star performer this season shares the new ball with Yadav. He is searching for some swing here but couldn’t get a great deal. Still bowls a tight line for 4 dot balls in a row, In fact, five dot balls as the Kiwi targets Rahul’s stumps. Not giving any width there. Last ball is dragged short and Rahul pulls it on his front foot for a falt six. Yes, it was just a matter of seconds as Rahul decides to unleash here. Only a six this over.
Over 1 | KXIP 1\0 | Rahul 1 Gayle 0
Umesh Yadav starts the proceedings for RCB and tests Rahul with his speed in his first two balls. Then invites him with an away-going ball for a drive, Rahul obliges with a single. A steamy Yadav almost had Gayle but Parthiv behind the stumps drops on a one-handed attempt. Massive let-off there. Then Yadav out of anger bowls a body-line bouncer to unsettle Gayle there. Good first over there only 1 run in that over.
19:45 IST: RCB go unchanged. By the way for stats lovers here is one to feed you: Gayle needs 42 runs to become the 7th player to reach 4000 runs in the IPL. Should be gettable…
19:37 IST: Big news from the toss: Kings XI Punjab’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman is injured; misses this game. Stoinis comes in for the mystery spinner. Looks like Punjab is already on the back foot after this setback.

18:20 IST: Head to head: KXIP 12 – 9 RCB
After an excellent start to the season, the Kings XI Punjab have faltered in their bid to make it in the top four, having lost their last two encounters. They currently have 12 points in the competition but with three games left, they are by no way assured of a playoff place and will have to win tonight’s match, given their next two assignments.
The Royal Challengers may be way down the table but they are mathematically alive in the hunt for the fourth place in the league. With the business end of the league here and after their rollicking win in Delhi against the Daredevils, they will fancy their chances against the KXIP side which finds itself in this awkward position.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers put on a show for their fans in the previous game and if they can carry on the same against the stuttering Punjab bowlers, they can move up the table. For Punjab, all eyes will be on KL Rahul and Chris Gayle, the former RCB duo, who have formed one of the best opening pairs this season.
