In the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians scripted 102 runs victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Wednesday and elevated themselves in the top-4 of IPL 2018 points table. This is KKR’s biggest loss in the Indian Premier League. Chasing a mammoth 211, Kolkata Knight Riders were derailed from the beginning.
On the second ball of the innings, KKR’s Sunil Narine gave a simple catch to walk back and everything all downhill from there. As soon as Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa tried to gather some momentum for KKR, a mix-up resulted in another wicket. None of the top order batsmen were able to set their foot as hosts crumbled.
Mumbai wrapped up the KKR side for 108 in 18.1 overs. As wickets tumbled, every bowler of the MI side got at least a wicket each. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya took two wickets while Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Ben Cutting and Mayank Markande scalped recorded a wicket each against their name.
Earlier, put into bat Mumbai Indians rode on the blitz innings from Ishan Kishan. The wicket-keeper batsman made 21-ball 62 which included six towering sixes and five fours. The highlight of his innings was when he took the Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav for a walk out of the park.
In the 14th over, Ishan Kishan struck four sixes in a row off Kuldeep’s over to reach his half-century in just 17 balls. His half-century is the joint second fastest half-century in IPL 2018.
Surya Kumar Yadav and Evin Lewis gave a stable start to MI but both the batsman couldn’t convert their start into a big one. Skipper Rohit Sharma played the anchor role in the middle.
Late hits by Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting ensured that the Mumbai crossed the 200-run mark and in the end, they posted 210/6.
