Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi Daredevils lost their second match in a row as they suffered a 10-run loss against Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In a match which was truncated due to rain, DD failed to chase down a total of 71 runs in 6 overs as RR got two points to their name.

Rajasthan Royals finally won their first game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 as they handed Delhi Daredevils their second defeat in a row. In a shortened game due to rain, Delhi Daredevils batsmen failed to chase down a target of 71 runs in 6 overs. Delhi got off to a horrible start as they lost wicket of Colin Munro off the first ball of the innings after the left-hander was run-out. Ben Laughlin proved to be the hero with the ball for RR as he picked two key wickets and conceded 20 runs in two overs.

Batting first, Rajashthan Royals put an average total of 153 runs on board before being bowled out in 17.5 overs.Ajinkya Rahane top scored for his team as he scored 45 runs off 40 balls. Even in the middle overs, Ben Stokes (16 from 12), Sanju Samson (37 off 22), Jos Buttler (29 off 18 balls) chipped in with crucial performances as RR reached a respectable total.

After losing the match, Gambhir said it was a good wicket to bat on and it was difficult as his side got just two overs of power play. It was a beautiful wicket to bat on, then 150 for 5 in 18 overs, we thought we could contain them to 170 and it was chaseable, especially with dew coming in later on. We were very much happy with the first innings. But then 6 overs, 72 was tough. We had to go from ball one. Obviously with these sort of games, things could go either way. Just 2 overs of Powerplay, it’s very difficult. If it was a 20-over game, it would’ve been much easy to chase,” the left-hander said.
