All-India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi will launch the party’s Assembly election campaign from Hosapete on February 10 by addressing a mega convention of party workers.
D.K. Shivakumar, Minister for Energy and chairman of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) campaign committee, told presspersons here on Sunday that Hosapete in Ballari district was known for its secularism and communal harmony. It is also adjacent to the Hampi World Heritage Site, which has a glorious past. Back in 1999, the district voted in favour of Sonia Gandhi when she contested from there.
To a question, he said that earlier the plan was to hold a convention of Scheduled Tribes. But then, the visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi was not finalised. As his visit has now been finalised, the party has chosen to organise a party workers’ convention and also launch the election campaign on the occasion.
Earlier, Mr. Shivakumar, accompanied by Labour Minister Santosh Lad, MLA E. Tukaram, former BJP MLA who has joined the Congress B.S. Anand Singh, and others reviewed the arrangements being made for the convention.
