Pool at Chamundi Vihar stadium to be open for public from January

Mysuru: Nearly five months after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the international standard swimming pool at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, the facility will now be open for public from January first week. For further development of the swimming pool, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep has instructed the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports authorities to prepare estimates for the floodlight facilities.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep called upon the Department of Youth Enforcement Authorities to make open the facility for the public by January first week. Based on his direction, the authorities have taken steps including finalising the fee structure and the required staff members including trainers and life guard for utilising the pool. Randeep also called upon the authorities to come out with an estimate for floodlight facility at swimming pool so that the public could also make use of the same till late in the evening especially during summer.

The international standard swimming pool which is constructed at a cost of Rs 4.97 Crore includes a main pool of 50mtr x 25mtrs besides warm pool and a children’s pool. This swimming pool will be only the third one for general public in Mysuru. The other pools are University of Mysore Swimming Pool in Saraswathipuram and another at J P Nagar which is a joint venture between Mysuru City Corporation and a private partner.

However, swimming pool at Chamundi Vihar Stadium will give residents of east and north Mysuru access to a public swimming pool and will reduce the burden on the University of Mysore pool where most of the public use. To conserve water, rainwater and roof water harvesting facilities have also been provided. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who had sanctioned the international standard swimming when he was the deputy chief minister 13 years ago also inaugurated the swimming pool at Chamundi Vihar stadium premise on 15 July 2017.
