Now, take a night tour of heritage sites in Mysuru

MYSURU: If everything goes according to plans, tourists will get an opportunity to peek into the good old heritage buildings in the city after dusk. The Department of Tourism has drafted a proposal under ‘night tourism’ to take tourists on a tour of buildings that date back to the rule of Wadiyars. The concept is designed on the lines of foreign countries.

An official of the Tourism Department who preferred to remain anonymous told Express that a circuit of 11 buildings has been prepared. Beginning from Town Hall, it will cover Free Mason’s building passing through statues of erstwhile rulers Chamarajendra Wadiyar and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Jaganmohan Palace, Devaraja Market, old CAVA building, Government Ayurveda Hospital Circle, railway offices, Government Maharani’s College for Women, Maharaja’s Junior College and Crawford Hall before culminating at the Oriental Research Institute (ORI), he said.

If possible, the famous palace will be included in the plan, especially when it is illuminated, to facilitate tourists to catch the magnificent sight of the royal structure. A cultural programme at Kalamandira will also be arranged.

Focus lights

The owners of prominent buildings – a majority of them are owned by the government – may be asked to install focus lights to enhance the looks of the structures in dark.

A ‘hop on and hop off’ bus with an open roof will be deployed for the purpose. It will be equipped either by audio guides or regular guides to explain the significance of every building. That apart, a literature providing detailed information on such buildings will also be handed out to tourists to enable them to follow with ease.

Deputy Director of Tourism H Janardhan said, “The modalities related to the project, mainly procurement of vehicle either directly or through service providers and fares are being worked out.
