Karnataka: New-born baby kidnapped from hospital in Kolar Gold Fields

KOLAR: In a shocking incident, a day-old male baby was kidnapped by an unidentified woman in the wee hours of Saturday from the Women and Children Hospital at Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka.

According to sources, the mother, Mala, wife of one Ravichandran from Cheldaganahalli, delivered a male baby on Friday morning at 7:25 am.  The mother and baby were shifted to the general ward for observation.

According to sources, there were six patients in this ward including Mala. She was being helped by her mother Puniyavathy and they were taking care of the child till past midnight. They slept around 3 am and by then other women and attendees in the ward were also asleep. Taking advantage of the same, the unidentified women allegedly kidnapped the child.

Speaking to the New Indian Express, KGF superintendent of police B S Lokesh Kumar said that based on the complaint, a kidnapping case has been registered in Robertsonpet Police Station and that the CCTV footage in the hospital has been collected and is being verified.

Lokesh Kumar said a team consisting of circle inspectors Sreekantiah, Sooriya Prakash, sub-inspector Harish and crime police, has been formed to nab the women who kidnapped the child. “We have already passed the message all over the state and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu with the photograph of the baby.”
