Honnavar: An FIR has been registered against Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandalaje by the Uttara Kannada police for her provocative tweet in connection to Kavya Shekar Naik, a school girl who was believed to have been assaulted by miscreants recently in trouble torn Honnavar.
The region, which was tense due to Paresh Mesta death issue, witnessed yet another row of Kavya, a student of a school in Magodu, who claimed to have been assaulted by miscreants. The issue had taken religious colours by the time the police stated that the girl had injured herself as she was being harassed by a local youth. Many alleged that the youth was from another community.
In this backdrop, Karandalaje had tweeted: “Jihadis tried to rape and murder a girl studying in 9th std near Honnavar. Why is the govt. silent about this incident? Arrest those who molested and injured the girl. Where are you C.M. Siddharamayya?”
The district police, who took the tweet seriously have now registered a suo moto FIR.
However, the police sources claim that in her complaint dated Dec 14, the girl had not made any reference to any religion.
