Bengaluru: Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) will set up a 10 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant to rejuvenate Doddabommasandra Lake in Bengaluru.
The plant, which will cost Rs. 13.5 crore, is expected to come up in 18 months, and will be maintained by the BEL for 20 years.
According to an official release, it will be designed on ‘Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) Technology’, a process in which the sewage is fed into the SBR Units for biological treatment.
“The oxygen required for the process will be supplied through ‘Fine Bubble Diffused Aeration System’ with autocontrol of oxygen levels in the basin. The treated water, after meeting Pollution Control Board norms, will pass through the wetland comprising aquatic plants before flowing into the lake,” the release stated.
The lake, spread over 124.35 acres, replenishes groundwater table of Vidyaranyapura, Govindayyanapalya, Doddabommasandra and Thindlu areas. Residents have long complained about untreated sewage entering the lake premises.
