African nationals’ assault policemen on duty, held

Bengaluru: Two African nationals accused of rash and negligent driving on city roads assaulted policemen during questioning and tore their uniform in a fit of rage in an incident that took place on January 15.

Najeba Clementine (24) and her male friend Kalalu Mujinga Jonathan (22), both residents of 5th block in HBR layout were arrested by the Kadugondanahalli Police in connection with the incident. Both are said to students studying BCA at Teacher’s Academy in the city.

On receipt of call from a colleague named Basavaraj Tonape on January 15, complaining about the duo driving recklessly behind forest office in HBR Layout, in their car bearing registration number KA-01-Z-1837, Constable Anand Shirola rushed to his aid. The African duo is understood to have hit a two wheeler on that day and gotten into an argument with the people around.

By the time Anand Shirola went to take stock of the situation, the duo had left in the car, which was later intercepted by the police. During questioning, the enraged woman slapped cop’s face while her friend assaulted him after hurling abuses at men on duty. When Hoysala vehicle reached the spot, the couple in a fit of rage tore the uniform of policemen. With the help of additional force, police finally managed to overpower the couple and took them to police station on the day of the incident.

A case has been registered against the duo of damaging public property, obstructing policemen on duty and assaulting men in uniform after constable Anand Shirola lodged a complaint.
