Over Memorial Day Weekend the fashion set took to Florence, Italy for the Gucci Cruise 2018 show. Here’s everything you need to know, from a Donald Glover spotting to the new way Gucci is being spelled.
The show took place in the Palatine Gallery of the Palazzo Pitti in Florence
A mixed bag of front row fixtures came out to support
Salma Hayek, Elton John, Jared Leto, Donald Glover, Dakota Johnson (and her siblings Stella Banderas and Grace Johnson), and many others were in attendance.
“Renaissance rock ‘n’ roll” was the theme
Inspired by the Renaissance, Alessandro Michele showed a collection that had a little bit of everything: New logo shirts and jeans for the ladies. A men’s must-have sweater that read Guccy across the front (sure to be spotted on every street style star worth her salt in Instagram followers.) Jogger pants, fanny packs, gold sequin capes. Red carpet-worthy Grecian-inspired gowns, bold palazzo pants, signature stripe cardigans, a logo-stamped fur coat—the list is long. After all, there were more than 100 looks!
Michele pulled a Dapper Dan on his own label
In what was an interesting and convoluted commentary on real versus fake in the fashion industry, Michele sent a pieces down the runway that look like they could have been created by the knockoff king himself, Harlem tailor Dapper Dan.
Michele also played with the misspelled logos that often pop up on counterfeit goods with “Guccy” sweaters and beaded gowns.
Could a Gucci Ghost-like collab with the iconic tailor be on the horizon? We can only hope so!
